On October 21, teachers of the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona participated in the annual FAME (Family Arts and Music Experience) day free activities of Children’s Museum Tucson, in downtown Tucson, Arizona.
CIUA fine arts teacher Chongchong Tan taught American children to make Chinese fireworks with red papers and many children were attracted to the activity. When they finished, they gladly held high the fireworks they had made and let their proud parents take photos or videos.
Many participants were drawn to the Chinese Kongfu Weaponry Display and some of them even tried to practice these weapons under the direction of CIUA Martial arts teacher Xintuo Zhang.
Other CIUA teachers also taught American children to recognize Chinese characters and played Chinese traditional musical instruments such as Guzheng to the audience.
