TUCSON − To promote healthy lifestyles and overall wellbeing and to increase cross-cultural awareness on the University of Arizona campus and in surrounding communities, the Confucius Institute at the University of Arizona will once again convene its annual “Chinese Health Day” on April 9, 2017. The event is co-sponsored by the University of Arizona Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.

This unique event includes information sharing on health services, health assessments and screening, music, dance, Chinese martial arts performances, a Qipao fashion show, calligraphy demonstration, culture and health exhibitions including traditional Chinese medicine and martial arts, Chinese massage (Tuina), health screenings, games, martial arts clinics and evaluations, and more by UA and community organizations, guest artists, musicians and martial arts masters from China and elsewhere in the United States including local performing groups.

A special delegation from the Chinese Wushu Association will also attend this year’s CHINESE HEALTH DAY events and provide the second overseas clinics and evaluations for Duanwei ranking. Guest performers and judges include representatives from Chinese Martial Arts, Wushu College of Beijing Sport University, Beijing, China. Professor Shaojun Lu, who hold Wushu 8 Duan (Level 8), used to be the chief coach for the national Wushu team of Singapore, Philippine and Brazil. Professor Yanjun Li, who hold Wushu 7 Duan (Level 7), National Wushu Champion, chief judge for National Wushu Tournaments, coach for a group of National Wushu Champions.

To introduce the Chinese Duanwei ranking system to martial arts practitioners in the United States, with support from the University of Arizona, Confucius Institute Headquarters in Beijing and the Chinese Wushu Association, Chinese Wushu Duanwei Ranking, 1st “Confucius Institute Cup” international Wushu Competition will be hold on the Chinese Health Day. The clinics, evaluation and certificates are available for Chinese Wushu lovers. This opportunity is open to people of all ages and with all levels of Chinese martial arts proficiency.

2. Information-sharing on health services & health assessments and screening
3. Healthy lifestyle games and demonstrations
4. Performances of Chinese martial arts, music and dance
5. Chinese martial arts clinics and evaluations for Duanwei (Dan or段位) ranking by experts from the Chinese Wushu Association in Beijing
